Super Nutty Crunchy

It's official. I've gone off the deep end. I now have a baby who uses the potty, and in his off time wears cloth diapers. This is not something I ever really saw coming, but when you have a 6 month old who uses the toilet much of the time, really why ask why. I was reading a blog recently where I mom mentioned doing Elimination Communication with her baby, and it piqued my interest. So I went to this website and read up on it a bit. Well to start out they tell you to let baby go naked for a while, and then when they eliminate to give them a verbal cue (we do a sssss sound), and to also tell them "oh you just went pee, or poo" or whatever you want to say. So I'm thinking "whatever, I don't have time to spend an afternoon with a baby peeing and pooing all over my house", not gonna happen. Well that very afternoon Bennett started peeing during a diaper change (mind you this hadn't happened since he was about a month old), so I took it as a sign, and made the verbal cue and told him "oh you just went pee". So the next morning I decided, what they hey, I'll stick him on the potty and see what happens. And what do you know, as soon as I put him on there and made the ssss sound, he peed in the potty. I still was doubtful and thought it was a fluke, but it got my attention, so I started taking him potty when I was changing diapers anyway. And I realized that he really did know what I wanted him to do!! And since we are cloth diapering anyway (also not something I planned, but I did a trade and got free diapers and since we're tight on money, I figured it would save us quite a bit of money), I figured why not take him potty while I'm at it. He really does go in the potty at least half of the time. I think the thing that made me decide to do this was someone who said they just do it when they can, and that it's a gradual learning process. I figure as long as I wasn't relying on it 100% and baby still has a diaper on, I'm good with it. This really has given me a greater appreciation for how smart babies are and how much we underestimate their abbilities. Speaking of which I just saw a trailer for a new documentary movie about babies, it looks very interesting check it out

How come only little babies look cute sitting on a potty...I wish I looked like that! OK, never mind I don't want anyone to picture me sitting on the potty! :)
