Growing on me

I have a confession to make. In the past I may have had a slight dislike of children who are male and between the ages of about 8-12. Ok, I might even call it loathing. I didn't understand their obnoxious behavior, their hyperactivity, or their stinkiness. So when my own son was approaching this age, I was dreading it. And just when I felt like I was adjusting to the idea of coping with 1 boy of this age, I was called to be Den Leader in Cub Scouts. And I was not happy about it. At all. But I did i out of duty, and have been trying to make things work. And a surprising thing has happened this week. At our scout activity yesterday, I found that those boys were growing on me, and I was genuinely starting to have a connection with them. And my own 8 year old is starting to be more responsible, and sweet and funny. And he can do things like hula hoop, and play actual music on the piano. And I'm realizing that even though this stage will be different than where I've been, it's going to have it's own rewards and surprises.

That is amazing. I have a similar loathing...mostly because I have trust issues. But Julian is so sweet it helps ease me into it.
I hope this doesn't mean I am going to be a Den Mother!!! SCARY! ;)

Ryan and I were den leaders for the Bears, 9 year olds, and really liked it cause we had a great group of boys...did it for a year and then got to be Nursery leaders! Now we are enjoying a "break"...haven't had anything since Brock was born...so nice!
And right now, I much prefer dealing with Riley's "issues" than Tylers hyperactivity!
