New Years Craziness

This year for New Years Eve I decided it would be fun to go up to Mt. Hood and go tubing.  I found that the boy scouts own a lodge there and they had it available for families to reserve for New years eve, and then to stay and go tubing the next day.  So I recruited some friends to go with us, and thought we could have a fun party that night, play games, eat, sit by the fire.  Well our one friends ended up turning back because they were worried about driving in the snow without chains, and our other friends didn’t end up getting there till after 11:00.  And the building wasn’t built to current code (it was built in the 70’s), and there were railings that were huge that Bennett could climb through and fall 12 feet down.  Not to mention the giant fireplace in the main area of the lodge.  So we spent a lot of our time chasing after Bennett and trying to keep him safe.  But the thing that made all of the hassle worth it was surprisingly the 1/8 of a mile hike from the parking lot to the lodge.  It was dark when we arrived (at 6), and the stars were amazing.  There was snow on all of the tall pine trees, and it was just so beautiful.  After our first trip in with the kids, there was still more stuff that needed to be carried in from the car, and I volunteered to go back out in the cold to get it, so that I could go out and enjoy the hike in solitude.  While I was out there I got to see a shooting star, and it really was a lovely way to end the year.  Then the next day we got to bundled all of the kids up (not an easy task), and go out tubing.  I only ended up going down the hill once and Bennett was ready to go back in within 20 minutes, but the other boys had a great time.  So here are some of the photos from our little adventure.  (The majority of them were taken by Kate, as I didn’t want to lug my big camera out in the snow, thanks Kate!!)

How did I miss these pictures of my cuties. I need to check your blog more often, because these slipped by me. Bennett loves Kate, doesn't he? Wish I was there enough for him to know me that well.
